Rajya Sabha Passes Juvenile Justice Bill - 10 Features of JJ Bill
Finally, on 22nd December 2015 Rajya Sabha passes Juvenile Justice (Nirbhaya Law) Bill. The bill has been already passed in Lok Sabha in August 2014 by Maneka Gandhi.
And here are the 10 features of Juvenile Justice Bill
1. Age of Juvenile lowered to 16 from 18.
2. For heinous crime, Minimum punishment is 10 years
3. Bill to establish JJB (Juvenile Justice Board) welfare committees
4. No death sentence for youthful offenders
5. Emphasis on rehabilitation, not punishment.
6. JJB to decide on trying a Juvenile as child.
7. Juvenile can be tried as adult after 21 years.
8. Penalties for cruelty against child defined.
9. JJBs to decide punishment.
10. Trafficking kids punishable.
So, it is big victory for Narbhaya Parents, Narbhaya Parents welcome the bill!
